Role Summary

The Applications Service Manager will play an important role within our Information Systems Team, helping to support the business by ensuring our IT applications are reliable, stable and effectively managed.

We're looking for someone who is highly organised, enjoys working as part of a team and has excellent communication skills. You'll build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across the business, taking the time to understand their needs and priorities to ensure we deliver a great service.

With experience in people management, you'll be confident in leading, supporting and motivating your team, creating an environment where everyone can thrive and deliver their best. You'll also act as the key link between the business and development teams, bringing people together, resolving service-related challenges and making sure issues are followed through to a positive resolution

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and mentor the Applications, First Line and Second Line teams, promoting collaboration, development and excellent service.
  • Oversee Service Desk operations, including ticket management, major incidents, root cause analysis and problem resolution.
  • Manage compliance, information security risks, change management and service reporting, ensuring appropriate processes and controls are in place.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, development teams and suppliers to prioritise work, drive service improvements and deliver positive outcomes.
  • Manage the myOHportal operating budget and supplier invoices, attend relevant business meetings, undertake occasional travel and lead by example in demonstrating the Optima Health values.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • An experienced Applications Service Manager, Application Support Manager or similar
  • Proven line-management experience, including managing performance, motivating staff and holding people accountable.
  • Experience managing an application-support service, ideally covering both 1st and 2nd Line support.
  • Highly organised and dependable, with a structured approach to tracking tickets, incidents, actions and deadlines.
  • Proactive, spotting issues and driving them to resolution rather than waiting to be chased.
  • Experience working closely with software-development teams to resolve live issues and agree development priorities.
  • A strong coordinator and organiser, rather than someone seeking a mainly hands-on technical role.
  • Able to communicate clear, simple facts to non-technical and senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working with some ambiguity and able to introduce greater consistency and maturity without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Jira and ITIL experience would be helpful but are not essential.
  • Appian and SQL experience are not important for shortlisting.

What Can We Offer You?

  • 25 Days Annual Leave + Bank Holidays
  • Buy and Sell Holiday Scheme
  • Life Assurance
  • Pension Scheme
  • Health Cash Plan
  • Volunteer Days
  • YuLife Employee Benefits Platform
  • Save As You Earn Scheme
  • Eye Test Vouchers
  • Flu Vaccination Scheme
